1,1-Dimethyl-2-thiourea, also known as 1,1-dimethyl-2-thioureido, has the formula C3H8N2S.
Nature:
1,1-dimethyl-2-thiourea is a colorless crystalline solid with a peculiar odor. It is relatively stable and not easy to decompose at room temperature. It has a melting point of about 155-160 degrees Celsius and begins to decompose at around 300 degrees Celsius. It is soluble in water, alcohol and chloride solutions and insoluble in non-polar solvents.
Use:
1,1-dimethyl-2-thiourea has many uses in the chemical industry. It can be used as a catalyst and intermediate in organic synthesis. It can also be used as an ion-selective removal agent for copper, as a solvent, catalyst, and anti-rust agent in metal processing and electroplating processes.
